Desperate Times, Desperate Pleasures Paperback #Giveaway

If you’ve been to the bookstore lately, you’ll notice a trend. In the romance section, typical man-chest, photo-realistic covers still exist but are increasingly being replaced by illustrated covers. There’s a real subset of readers who are tired of racier covers or gravitate to illustrations or object-related covers.

My sister would be one of them, and she recently asked if I’d consider putting out two paperback versions of my latest book. So I thought about it and figured, why not?

Will you help me select the final artwork while entering a draw at the same time?

Screencapture of paperback choices. #1 is happening regardless in traditional paperback size (5.25″ x 8″.) I’m currently choosing between #2 and #3 for the mass market paperback size (4.25″ x 7″).

For a chance to win a paperback of Desperate Times, Desperate Pleasures–signed if you live in North America–leave me a comment below. Let me know:

  1. Which version is your overall preference?
  2. Between choices 2 and 3–the mass market paperback size–which is your favorite?

  1. #1 is my overall favorite, No real preference between 2 and 3, but if I had to choose I would choose 2. 2 & 3 both seem to have not enough contrast to not seem cluttered with words. Contrast is better in 2 but still needs to be cleaned up/tightened up some with some size variety?

  2. #1 is my head and shoulders above the rest favorite. I like the idea of two competing covers, but IMHO the other two are maybe a bit bland and don’t tell a story. #2 would be my preference between 2 and 3. And best of success for this book! I love your story telling style!

      1. Oh my gosh, you HAVE to read the Steel Street series. I have read them all – and they are all on my keeper shelf. I keep hoping she’ll write more. I’m not ready for that series to be finished.

I’m so excited for your new book to come out. I’m torn about the covers – the first one is my favorite, for sure. I normally like turquoise better than pink, but for some reason I prefer the pink cover here.

I’m still purchasing paperbacks – you mention sizes for trade and mass market paperbacks, so I’m hoping that means your book will at some point be available in those formats, too? I’ll put it my order as soon as preorders can be placed.

        Have a great week!

  3. Congrats on the release, Jan! Between 2 & 3, I vote for 3, since the pink/red hints at romance as well as suspense.Like most commenters so far, I much prefer #1 overall – I think because there, it looks like the woman is independent, while in the mass market covers, it looks like the man is pulling along the woman.

  4. Congratulations on the great reviews! I can hardly wait to read this. So, if I am reading this correctly, only 2 or 3 are in the giveaway, with 2 in mass market pb size and 3 in trade paperback? If that’s the case I’ll go with number 2 because of the smaller size. 🙂

    1. Hi, Becke, and thank you so much!

Re the paperbacks, not quite. #1 will be available in trade paperback size and it looks like the purchase link might work now on Amazon, if you’re interested.

I’m in the process of selecting the mass market paperback cover, which was to be a choice between #2 and #3. It sounds like the mint background is more popular. Sadly, it doesn’t render that well in print, so alterations may lie ahead. I’m working on it as we speak.

The winner gets to choose which version they prefer, though I’ll have to be the final arbiter of the mass market design.

More info than you wanted, I’m sure! I hope that makes sense.
